Based on a sketch of La Sainte-Chapelle in Paris I made in 2012. Photographed on a beach in Cancún, Mexico where we were spending Christmas.
A view from the balcony into the upper chapel of the Sainte-Chapelle, commissioned in the thirteenth century by Louis IX to house his relics from the Passion of Christ. It is the only remaining part of the Capetian Royal Palace on the Île de la Cité in Paris.
After suffering heavy damage during the Revolution it was extensively restored by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century.
