Adapted from a drawing I did last year on location at Westminster Abbey.
The west end of Westminster Abbey with the towers designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and constructed between 1734-45.
I started this drawing on Saturday 11th December 2010 at 3pm but within an hour it was too dark to continue so I returned the following day and continued for a couple of hours until my hands were too cold to draw. I may finish the side of the nave and the foreground sometime next year.
Hawkmoor's clean and spare gothic towers are rather easier to suggest in pen lines than the more elaborate tracery lower down the facade.
